There is nothing more daunting then your first day at a new job. The thought of trying to remember everyone’s name, fitting in to a new environment and not to mention, not knowing where the kitchen is! Here are the few horror stories that will put you at ease about your first day.
“It was my first day as the new head of a Global Communication company in London. After introducing me to everyone, things seemed to be going well. It got to lunchtime and I felt that I had settled in. I walked to the nearest café to get myself some lunch, it was a sunny day so I brought my food back to the office to sit on balcony and enjoy this rare summer day. The minute I sat down, the chair collapsed and my food went all over me! All I could hear were laughs coming from inside, needless to say my dad didn’t go so well after all!”
“I was so nervous for my first day at work that I literally spent all night tossing and turning. I don’t think I even managed to get three hours of sleep! I made it in the next morning and by 11 o clock, I was found asleep snoring at my desk! What a way to make a good first impression!”
“I had always been a very quiet and reserved person, so it was just my luck that the company I had just joined had a tradition of taking the ‘new person’ out for lunch and asking them whatever they wanted. I had barely bitten in to my salad when I got asked what age I was when I lost my virginity and if I had any secret piercings or tattoos. I spent most of that lunch bright red.”
“I landed myself a job as a CNN temp, I was so excited, I had literally been dreaming about a job like this since I was a little girl. I walked in to the office on my first day overly enthused about what jobs I would be given. To my disappointment they had assigned me a special task; the company were doing a monthly promotion and handing out colouring books and pencils. My job was to sharpen thousands of pencils-no exaggeration. It was the longest day I’ve ever had.”
