From double dip recessions and Government spending cuts to Royal engagements and the reformation of Take That – 2010 has been a total rollercoaster, and certainly one for the books.
One thing that has remained constant throughout the year however, is the work Grad Central has been doing to help drive forward growth within the region’s industries.
Despite news reports of a tough graduate market, Grad Central has been successful in placing over 350 graduates within full time positions this year alone. Graduates are essential in driving forward growth within the region, and are representative of the new and emerging technologies and techniques that industries need to adopt in order to diversify and survive – put simply graduates are fresh talent!
IT, Telecoms and Manufacturing roles have been accounted for nearly 30% of the placements made, whilst Business Services, Insurance and Engineering sectors account for just over 28% - a clear indicator as to where growth within the region has been flourishing over the year.
With the debate over a rise in tuition fees domination the headlines for the latter half of the year, 2011 will prove the litmus test as to whether the planned spending cuts and rise in fees will have a knock-on-effect to the number of graduates coming through university – and more importantly it’s direct effect on growth within the regions key industries.
