Keeping it private
Recent news from the BBC has suggested that the private sector holds better career prospects for those on the look out for a job. A survey of 600 companies by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) measured the number of companies planning to hire against the number planning to lose staff in its net employment index. It revealed that businesses in the private sector showed strong hiring intentions at +19, while in the public sector the index gives a reading of -35.
As the government is predicting around 600,000 job losses in the public sector to occur over the next five years, the CIPD believes the private sector will benefit from this so long as it is able create new jobs in sufficient numbers and quickly enough.
Grad Central has seen increasing numbers of private organisations keen to recruit in this financially tough climate because they believe that the driving force behind the success of their businesses is their workforce.
In the last year, we have placed over 200 graduates into permanent roles across the West Midlands in a wide range of sectors. This year alone, Grad Central has doubled placements month on month, which illustrates how enthusiastic businesses in the region are about investing in graduate talent.
Not only are they keen to place individuals in readily available positions, but we are seeing an increasing number of companies developing new roles to bring in those with more diverse skills and specialist degrees that will help to bring an edge to their existing operations, keeping them one step ahead of their competitors.
