The changing face of Longbridge

If you talked about Longbridge to the majority of Midlanders, nearly all would associate it with being the home of Britain’s automotive industry. From Austin and the British Motor Company, to British Leyland and its final incarnation as MG Rover, the site has gone through many changes in the last 100 years. Even now, it’s retaining some of its heritage with the MG TF still in production at the site and the new MG6 on its way.
However, in recent years, there has been a massive regeneration programme at the former MG Rover site as it aims to be a centre for innovation and technology. The £1 billion investment programme, being carried out by developers St Modwen in association with regional development agency Advantage West Midlands (AWM), is set to create 10,000 new jobs for the region over the next 15 years.
Part of this regeneration programme has already seen the development of Longbridge Technology Park, which includes the Innovation Centre and Two Devon Way, both state-of-the-art office and conference facilities ideal for small to medium sized businesses.
This is giving rise to a number of new start-up businesses or companies relocating to the site that operate in emerging markets. These technology-based businesses are breathing new life into the area and creating a host of employment opportunities, which is great news for the regional economy.
One such company is ByteSnap, a software development and electronics design consultancy. The company has recently taken on a new graduate software engineer to support its business growth plans. For more details, have a look at ByteSnap’s case study on our website.
